what is supported home living?
Helping people stay in their home sweet home
Supported Home Living (SHL) is an HCS program that provides daily living assistance to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who live in their own homes. Supported Home Living services often include food planning and preparation, transportation, housekeeping assistance, and a variety of other services and supports.
How it works
The support you need for independent living
Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities are often better off staying in their existing living arrangements rather than transferring to a residential group home, in order to prevent the stress and psychological trauma of a big move or change in environment. While staying in their existing home may be the best option for many intellectually and developmentally handicapped people, this is not always possible due to the need for additional support and assistance.
We provide Supported Home Living Services to help people with intellectual and developmental challenges live as freely as possible in their own homes by assisting with activities of daily living such as eating, bathing, dressing, grooming, and hygiene. Each individual's level and scope of Supported Home Living Services differs significantly, so their specific plan is tailored to them.
