Texas Home and Community Based (HCS) Services
Texas Home and Community Based Services (HCS) is a state-wide program that provides services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their own homes or in community settings. The program is designed to promote independence, community involvement, and self-determination for individuals with disabilities.
HCS provides a variety of services including:
- Residential Support (consisting of Residential Support Services (RSS), Supervised Living (SL), Host Home/Companion Care (HH/CC), and Own Home/Family Home Support Services)
- Day Habilitation
- Nursing
- Specialized Therapies
- Dental
- Social Work
- Adaptive Aids
- Home Modifications

HCS Services We Provide
We provide all of the services offered by the HCS program, including:
Day Habilitation services help people with disabilities develop skills and independence. Services include community involvement activities, vocational training, life skills training, and health and wellness education. Services are provided Monday – Friday for 5 hours per day
Nursing services provide support and assessments to help maintain the individual’s health.
Specialized Therapies can include the following services:
- Occupational therapy
- Speech therapy
- Physical therapy
- Dietary services
- Audiology services
- Cognitive rehabilitation services (services for people with brain injury)
- Behavioral Support
Dental services are available to individual’s to maintain good oral care up to $2,000 per year.
Social work is the practice of ensuring individuals have access to all social services to which they are entitled.
An adaptive aid is an item or service that enables an individual to retain or increase the ability to perform activities of daily living, or to control the individual's environment.
A minor home modification is a physical adaptation to an individual's residence that is necessary to address the individual's specific needs, and that enables the individual to function with greater independence in their residence, or to control his or her environment.
*Note that there is a limit of $7,500 lifetime for minor home modification; however, there is a $300 available per year for repair and maintenance of the minor home modification.
